On May 1, the Asian American Stories 2025 Gala and Award Ceremony transformed H.L. Peninsula Restaurant in Milpitas, California, into a hub of vibrant celebration! This wasn’t just an event; it was an electrifying kick-off to Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, honoring the incredible talent of Asian American storytellers.

The energy was palpable with over 400 guests, more than 90 contestants, 40 partners, 10 judges, 20 elected officials, and 100 community and business leaders in attendance. The dynamic duo of Emmy-Award winner Dion Lim and Assemblymember Patrick Ahrens hosted, elevating every moment of the Second Annual Gala. Olympic skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi was honored as the Legendary Storyteller.

These stories, a testament to our community’s heart, resilience, and creativity, showcased the profound gift we bring to America—our labor, art, ingenuity, and humanity, all woven into the nation’s identity. This year’s event celebrated unsung heroes: from Ghino Lee’s mother, who aids elderly Korean Americans, to Amanda Nguyen, who sparked nationwide legal reforms. We also honored institutions like Chinese Hospital and Friends of Children with Special Needs and barrier-breaking Olympian Vicki Manolo Draves.
