Summary

The Teaching AANHPI History Act, reintroduced in May 2025 by Senator Hirono and Representative Meng, seeks to mandate inclusion of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander history in K–12 education. It addresses long-standing gaps and Eurocentric bias in U.S. curricula by requiring coverage in grant-funded programs, standardized assessments, and collaboration with the Smithsonian’s APA Center.

Committee of 100 makes a strong case for supporting the bill, highlighting its role in combating stereotypes, fostering empathy, enhancing academic accuracy, and empowering AANHPI students and all learners. For decades, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders have played integral roles in shaping the United States. Yet, their stories are too often left out of our classrooms.
